About
Fit for Fun
Fit for Fun is an integral part of Multi-Sport’s
junior sports programme. It is the creation of twenty
two years of experience by a team of highly qualified
Physical Education teachers. The programme has age related
activities to arm the child with the skills of running,
jumping and throwing to excel in athletics. Moreover
the positive life skills we endeavour to instil makes
Multi-Sport’s Fit for Fun an invaluable and necessary
education course for every child.
Qualified Coaches
For the past twenty years Multi-Sport’s reputation
has been built by consistently providing qualified Physical
Education teachers who are familiar with the ethos and
teaching methods of the company. Staff attend training
courses and seminars and are continually monitored and
assessed with the use of Multi-Sport’s Teaching
Evaluation Form that is posted on our web site.
From our teachers parents can expect: -
Safety
Effective Teaching
Teaching with Creativity and Imagination
Positive, Enthusiastic and Motivational Teaching
Fun, energetic and enjoyable lessons for children
Parents can read our article on our Principles of Teaching
Juniors here,
which has served us well for the past twenty years.
Evaluation
Improvement in athletic skills can be and are objectively
monitored successfully and rewarded through praise or
incentive awards. Tests can even objectively monitor
physiological changes that take place in a child as
a result of an exercise programme. Not only is this
motivational for the children but teachers can evaluate
the effectiveness of the programme. Knowledge of results
and feedback is a vital component to the success of
any sports programme. What is difficult to objectively
evaluate are positive changes in behaviour the programme
aims to develop such as confidence, self-esteem, communications
skills, co-operation, respect and sportsmanship. Small
children do not understand abstract concepts such as
justice however the building blocks can be put in place
though sport to achieve a heightened sense of fair play
and integrity.

Coaching
Considerations
Our professional staff are careful never to put the
junior in a failure situation. For example how many
times have you heard an adult say, “Last one there
is a rotten egg.” Immediately a child is going
to be place in a failure situation, normally the slower
more physically challenged child. Even worse he faces
ridicule at being a rotten egg. Similarly if children
are allowed to choose teams inevitably the good athletes
are picked first and the children no body wants face
ridicule and failure. And yet this still happens in
schools and clubs today.
Multi-Sport staff are trained never to do this. Rarely
will you see a game where one child is eliminated and
sits out for the rest of the game. Rather our games
are continuous and ongoing. The wonderful thing about
our Fit for Fun games is that they are highly competitive
without the risk of failure. The hunters become the
hunted and vica verca.
“Children tasting success and failure in that
order – are most likely to continue to the struggle
to achieve. They also set themselves goals; teachers
must ensure these goals are adequate and realistic for
each child. The teacher must beware however, of prejudging
the capabilities of a child to the point where the teacher
consistently under – or overestimates them.”
This is the challenge of every teacher.
Our Fit for Fun course for juniors starts with games
that every child can enjoy success to increasingly more
difficult and complex and competitive games.
Through participating in Multi-Sport’s Fit for
Fun lessons children will be armed with the physical,
mental and psychological skill to tackle competitive
games. How to deal with both winning and loosing is
an important aspect of sport that needs to be taught
and yet is rarely addressed in schools.
Children are taught how to cope with winning and loosing
and the benefits of competition. They are taught that
there will always be someone better than you. Let them
aspire and motivate you. On the other hand there will
always be children worse than you. Help them and never
ridicule them.
In team games there is at least mutual culpability.
It is quite distressing and harsh on children to be
given out in a game like cricket particularly if they
have been waiting a long time for their go and only
get one chance. It is imperative children are prepared
for competitive sports and this is our challenge.
Games
Tag Games
Simple running and catching tag games forms the foundation
of Fit for Fun. Tag games have been played since early
man and are an essential part of play not only in humans
but in the animal kingdom. They form the foundation
to develop the skills and stamina essential for survival.
Therefore, Multi-Sport, stand to be accused of marketing
something as old as the hills. Games we play have been
passed down through generations by every nationality
throughout the world. And yet these games are becoming
sadly neglected or are played and taught with detrimental
consequences.
The beauty about tag games is they can be played in
small spaces. The Fit for Fun programme has developed
over 20 tag games that children just love to play.
Running games for juniors can be potentially hazardous.
Banged heads, lost teach and concussions can all be
avoided effectively if these games are introduced properly.
All Multi-Sport staff are trained to safely introduce
games. With excited children running in all directions
at fever pace in an enclosed area, collisions are guaranteed,
unless children are taught spatial awareness through
a variety of carefully presented talks, exercises and
practices developed by Multi-Sport over the past twenty
years.
Relays and Obstacle
Relays
Relays are used sparingly. In relays neat lines are
formed which inevitably means long waits between each
go. They are extremely competitive and therefore need
to be monitored. Great care must be taken to ensure
less able children are not ridiculed. “We don’t
want Joe on our team he’s too slow.” Teams
ought to be changed frequently. We never allow children
to choose their own teams. Good teachers can quickly
choose teams that are competitive. Excellent professional
ensure all children taste success. Teams can be changed
frequently. Obstacle relays can be great team building
exercises. Although we use relays sparingly they can
be immensely exciting and fun.
Hoops
The Fit for Life uses hoops for fun running games and
team building exercises.
Bean Bag
Fit for Life uses bean bags for throwing games and in
the use of tag games.
Skipping
Fit for Life uses skipping ropes. Skipping seems to
be a lost art in schools today. Surprisingly fewer children
are able to skip today properly.
Partner Work
Fit for Life incorporates a lot of partner such as a
variety of counter balances and movement such as wheelbarrows
and centipedes as well as partner exercises.
Circuit training Cardio Cadets
ircuit training is used sparingly which we call Cardio
Cadets.
Summary
Fit for Fun is an educationally sound programme. OK
it is nothing new and is based on practical common sense,
yet with computers, TV, play stations and more scholastic
demands placed on students today it is little wonder
children of this generation have forgotten how to actively
play. And with more fast food being eaten we have a
generation of overweight children suffering from inactivity.
Fit for Fun addresses these issues.
Our games and activities are fun, exciting and non-threatening.
